Kudos to President Bush?

his speech to the nation on the financial crisis now facing the nation. He seems to have pulled back a bit from the demand for unbridled Executive authority, he called for genuine compromise, and I didn’t sense the smugness that is so characteristic of most of speeches. While he completely left the issue of insufficient and improper regulation of the financial sector out of his explanation of the crisis, and while the explanation of how we got to this point was very much oversimplified, his speech did seem designed to allay fears and I think it may well do so. And so, Mr. President, kudos for finally showing a spirit of bipartisanship and real leadership. When a crisis like this emerges in an election season it is particularly important that the President’s office do that. The nation will be grateful to you for doing so.
