The evening of January 8 I went to see 47 Soul, from Jordan and Palestine at the Sinclair. The play a type of music called Shamstep, a genre of music created from a base of traditional dabke rhythms mixed with heavy doses of hip-hop, funk, soul, rock, and reggae. This musical melange of cultures is also evident in the lyrics, sung in both English and Arabic. On a brief US tour to promote their new album, Balfron Promise, they put on an energetic, highly engaging show! They are now a new favorite, and I hope to see them back here again soon! Check them out on YouTube. I didn’t take my camera to the show because I really just wanted to enjoy it. But I did take this handful of photos with my iPhone, from where I stood in front of the stage. Enjoy!
